When Sarah and Collin, an adventurous and full-of-life couple from Spokane, reached out for Washington engagement photos, they had a clear vision: they wanted a joyful memory together amidst nature to celebrate this special season of their lives. I was MORE than happy to comply. 🙂

Living in Spokane and with me based in Ellensburg, we decided to meet halfway in the stunning Washington desert—one of my favorite parts of the state. This hidden gem is known for its dramatic basalt towers, cascading waterfalls, and expansive views. I truly think the desert landscape is massively underrated—it offers a rugged but incredibly romantic backdrop, ideal for the adventurous couples and the dream canvas for photos that feel unique and celebratory!

As a professional rugby player for the U.S. team, Collin’s life is full of action and adventure, and Sarah, a P.E. coach, thrives on sports and fitness. AND the sweetest detail: they met in 7th grade and started dating in their senior year! Despite the distance during college and Collin’s rugby career, they made it work and ultimately moved to DC together.

Their shared love of fitness, sports, and road trips (especially a recent cross-country adventure to Moab) set the tone for their engagement session. They wanted to honor their journey with beautiful memories that encapsulated their love and their adventurous lifestyle.

Favorite moments from their Eastern Washington Engagement Session

The session had its fair share of surprises—including a slight detour! Sarah and Collin accidentally took the wrong trailhead, which delayed the start of our session a bit. But this “mistake” turned into an absolute blessing, as it allowed us to arrive at the perfect moment when the golden sunset light painted the sky and bathed the tall grasses in warm, glowing tones.

We hiked to a breathtaking overlook next to a waterfall cascading down the basalt formations, with more waterfalls visible in the distance. The sight was absolutely magical, and the sun setting behind the mountains created an unforgettable atmosphere of peace and beauty. The combination of the desert’s ruggedness and the serene sunset made for photos that were both energetic and intimate—exactly what Sarah and Collin had hoped for.

The day wasn’t just about capturing photos; it was about creating meaningful memories together. After our hike, we all climbed into my van to enjoy a delicious charcuterie board together. As we reminisced about the session and the stunning scenery, it felt like the sweetest end to an amazing evening.

The sunset, the location, and the moments we all shared together made this session one I will never forget. I’m so grateful to have been part of such a special day for such an amazing couple.
