Seattle Maternity Session

Kass + Nathan’s Seattle Maternity Session | In The Alpenglow

Even though my main gig is elopement photography, I absolutely love it when I get a chance to document other big milestones in the lives of my clients—before and after saying “I do”. I had the chance to do this with some dear friends of mine, Kass and Nathan, as they prepared to welcome their little boy! And while I love a good home session or studio backdrop for maternity photos, there is something incredibly special about a Seattle maternity session that blends wild mountain backdrops, golden hour light, and a couple on the cusp of a brand new adventure. Kass & Nathan’s baby announcement and portrait session in North Bend was just that: a celebration of transition, rootedness in their mountain home, and the beauty of building a life together.

These two had been living full-time in their van, embracing the nomadic lifestyle and chasing landscapes across the Pacific Northwest. But as they prepared to step into parenthood, they found themselves drawn to put down roots. They landed on North Bend: a little mountain town less than an hour from Seattle. And it quickly became more than a stop on the map, it became home and the dream place to build their family (while still making time for plenty of van trips).

Kass knew the exact area she wanted to shoot at (as a fellow wedding photographer, she knows THE best spots). It was a hidden trail offering Cascade views and space to park the van—perfect for a quiet escape. As the sun set, vibrant colors lit the sky, mirroring their contagious joy and growing excitement. It felt like nature itself was celebrating with them.

Sweet Seattle maternity session moments

One of my favorite parts of this session was how effortlessly everything aligned. The mountains in the distance, the warmth and familiar love between Kass & Nathan. Their dusty, well-traveled van stood proudly, telling a story of freedom, movement, and love lived simply.

We laughed, talked about their hopes for the future, and soaked up the last of the day’s light together. It was calm, connected, and full of intimacy and intention. Exactly the kind of shoot that makes me love being a photographer (and meeting people like this along the way).
