Queenstown Elopement | Kayliegh & Cody’s Intimate + Adventurous Day in New Zealand

I am so excited to share this dreamy Queenstown elopement! It was honestly everything I love about destination storytelling and I had a whole lot of pinch me moments during it. It was so deeply connected to the landscape, wildly adventurous, and beautifully intimate. We held it in the heart of Queenstown, New Zealand and we focused as much as we could on the iconic scenery. We wanted to honor the beautiful place we were in,  even on the other side of the world!

Why a Queenstown Elopement Feels So Special

Queenstown is a truly unreal sort of place. Anytime I try to sit down and write about New Zealand in general, it feels impossible. I always rewrite and rewrite to avoid cliches. But sometimes you can’t avoid phrases like “unreal” and magic.” With Lake Wakatipu stretching out endlessly below and The Remarkables mountain range rising dramatically behind you, you feel so small and filled with pure awe. Kayliegh and Cody currently call Queenstown home. Their life of travel and clear ability to connect with strangers has made them THE easiest people to be around. The kind of couple you meet once and instantly feel like you’ve known forever: kind, warm, and present.

Cody’s family is Māori, an indigenous culture that honors the land as sacred and living. That connection was quietly woven into the spirit of the day and felt respectful, intentional, and simple.  We began the day in their Queenstown apartment, overlooking Lake Wakatipu and The Remarkables. These getting-ready moments were definitely my favorites: soft light filled the space and a quiet laughter filled the background.

From their apartment, we made our way to a stunning overlook above the lake, seated beneath The Remarkables. The colors of Queenstown (cool blues, muted greens, warm stone tones) shaped the mood and the inspiration was simple– let the land lead! Weddings can sometimes feel overly polished, but this one stayed rooted in real connection and natural beauty. There was zero need for heavy décor or elaborate details…the landscape did all the work for us! The wind, water, and mountains have no problem telling the story of why an elopement here is magic.
