Washington Backpacking Elopement

A Washington Backpacking Elopement: Becca & John’s Mt. Baker Adventure | In The Alpenglow

A Washington backpacking elopement is about as stripped down as a wedding day can get: packing everything you need, heading into the mountains, and building a wedding day around what you already loooove to do. And that’s exactly what Becca and John wanted! A simple but adventurous experience in one of their favorite places. And it has quickly become one of my favorite memories as an elopement photographer!

Becca and John’s story started on a hiking trail in Yosemite and since then, the outdoors has been a huge part of their relationship. It’s how they spend their time, how they connect, and how they’ve built their life together. They had already summited Mt. Baker before, so when I suggested a backpacking elopement hiking up toward basecamp to celebrate their marriage, they were immediately in.

Backpacking to Elope on Mt Baker

We started the trek in perfect summer conditions, with wildflowers lining the trail the entire way up. With our packs loaded and their pup Rosie leading the charge, the steady rhythm you fall into on longer hikes. set the tone for the whole experience. The whole day felt wonderfully un-rushed, with every step building toward something bigger.

And by the time we reached camp, Mt. Baker was glowing. That soft alpenglow hit the mountain perfectly and everything slowed down. They exchanged vows surrounded by open sky and rugged terrain, and as the light faded, we settled in for the night: cooking dinner, hanging out with Rosie, and eventually crawling into tents under a sky full of stars. So so peaceful and beautiful.

Is a Backpacking Elopement for you?

Becca and John found me because they connected with my heart for adventure, and this day was exactly that. I helped with location scouting and timeline planning to make sure everything felt doable, intentional, and aligned with their vision.

A Washington backpacking elopement isn’t for everyone BUT if you love the outdoors, it’s hard to imagine a more meaningful way to get married. It’s immersive, a little challenging, and completely unforgettable. For couples like Becca and John, it is truly all about starting your marriage the same way you plan to live it: side by side, out in the wild, choosing adventure together. If that sounds like you, I’d love to chat! Head here to inquire!
