A Joyful Leavenworth Wedding in the Woods

There is something so special about working with couples who share similar values to me, as well as a deep love of (and desire to spend lots of time in) the outdoors. To share the same giddiness as we explore together — soaking in every moment of forest and mountain goodness — is the absolute best. And Michael and Emma are those kinds of people! I was able to document their joyful Leavenworth wedding in the woods a while back, and it was a truly magical and easy day filled with love and beauty.

Both Michael and Emma work for non-profits, which isn’t a surprise after you meet them — they are so loving, warm, and joyful! Before getting engaged on a beautiful snowshoe walk in the PNW mountains, they were good friends throughout college (both liking each other at different times…classic). When they reconnected a little over a year after graduating, they found that the spark was still there. 🙂 It’s the sweetest story and it’s so clear when you see them together that they were always meant to be!

Planning their idyllic Leavenworth Wedding

From the very beginning, they both had a deep desire for a wedding that was organic and intimate! They wanted to be outdoors with just their closest friends and family. The woodsy vibe of Leavenworth, Washington gave them exactly what they envisioned: easy going and intentional. They held their ceremony in the forest at a stunning spot among the trees with a river running alongside it. One of my favorite moments with them was after the ceremony and some family formals, when we had a moment alone by the creek. It was so peaceful, and they just held each other — exchanging sweet words and listening to the calming rush of water.

I absolutely loved this day, and it was such an honor to not just memorialize it with photos, but also to do my best in keeping Michael and Emma grounded throughout the day and focused on taking in the incredible scenery around them! My dream for my couples is that they can look back at these photos and not see a carefully structured shot, but really remember how they felt in that moment amidst such beauty.
