As a photographer, I feel really strongly that there is a huge difference between taking a few photos to “capture a big moment” …versus taking the time to slow down and savor a significant stage of your life. Even better, I love doing it all through a memorable adventure. When you make the choice to turn a to-do item on your wedding prep checklist into a full experience for you and your love, it becomes a moment you can look back on in fondness for years to come. A task becomes a cherished day of adventure in a beautiful place. Even more so, looking through the photos brings you right back to a moment of deep gratitude, love and presence. I had the chance to experience this recently with the sweetest couple, Ashley and Nathan, in a beautiful Mt. Rainier National Park engagement session. I’m excited to share those moments with you!

Ashley and Nathan grew up in a small farming town in northern California. They met working at Starbucks together! Soon after meeting, their sense of adventure (and love of all things moody and green) led them to make a leap and move to the Pacific Northwest together!

Planning a Mt. Rainier Engagement Session

Their shared love of the outdoors and adventure led them to me when they got engaged in September of 2021. We quickly bonded over our life stories and some delicious tacos at a brewery in Packwood. It was an honor to be a part of crafting their engagement session through helping them location scout. They settled on Mt. Rainier for the beautiful forests and mountain vistas. I helped them plan the timeline for the day. Furthermore, and most importantly, I worked hard to center them to the beauty, creating moments of peace and reflection throughout their session. I especially loved our shared moments of spontaneity! We made a very quick move to stop alongside a road on our drive through the national park. Because of this, we witnessed the most amazing sunset on Mt Rainier behind them.

Their love for each other and this new, incredible state they get to explore together was so evident during their engagement session and I’m sure you’ll be able to see that through the photos below!
