New Zealand Engagement Photos at Lake Pukaki

If you’re looking for a breathtaking backdrop for your engagement, there really isn’t a more beautiful place than Lake Pukaki. The crystal-clear waters, towering peaks, and vibrant lupine flowers create a truly fairytale setting. Fortunately, I had the privilege of seeing this come to life as I captured Caroline and Ashley’s New Zealand engagement photos. This day felt like a dream come true—a romantic, laid-back experience full of wanderlust (with immaculate 70s hippie vibes).

In fact, even the couple’s journey to New Zealand was special. For their February elopement, they decided to escape the winter chill of the Northern Hemisphere and travel through the South Island of New Zealand in a cozy van. The night before their elopement, they ventured to the shores of Lake Pukaki, where the majestic Mount Cook stood as a dramatic backdrop.

Taking Engagement Photos Near Mt Cook

The evening was windswept and whimsical as the couple frolicked through the tall grass and took in the magnificent views. The air was fresh, and the colors of the setting sun reflected off the lake, casting an ethereal glow. One of my favorite parts of the shoot was their van—a perfect retreat for moments of stillness between the adventures. It wasn’t just a place to warm up; it symbolized the spirit of adventure, travel, and connection that had brought Caroline and Ashley to this stunning corner of the world.

As they walked along the water’s edge, the couple was surrounded by vibrant lupine flowers—an iconic bloom that is at its peak during the summer months in New Zealand. The juxtaposition of the colorful flowers with the rugged landscape made these moments feel even more dreamlike—with the added sweetness of some adorable sheep grazing nearby.

Throughout the shoot, Caroline and Ashley’s sense of wonder was so evident. They reveled together in the incredible scenery, often pausing to take in the vivid blue water and Mt. Cook’s dramatic presence. The peacefulness of the setting allowed them to soak up each moment, making it easy to capture their joy and connection.
