Orcas Island Elopement | In The Alpenglow

There is something so magical about Orcas island & the other San Juan islands of Washington state. Imagine catching a ferry across beautiful waters, watching excitedly for whales, seeing the coastline rimmed with the snowy peaks of mountain ranges. The actual islands themselves all have the sweetest little island towns and some of the warmest communities of people. Because of this, when a couple reaches out and wants to elope on one of the San Juan Islands, I already know they’re my kind of people. They’re the people who value a connection to nature, memorable experiences, and intimate moments with their dear ones. Kass and Jordan were that sort of couple, and I’m so excited to share their Orcas Island elopement!

Choosing an Orcas Island Elopement

Kass and Jordan met while playing soccer at Seattle University, but were just acquaintances for a while. Years after graduating, they were connected through mutual friends and went on their first date (Jordan wore sweatpants, but that rocky start was thankfully forgiven), and they’ve been together ever since!

Something I loved about them is their deep shared passion for exploring. Whether its in the mountains or the city, they love to take in new sights together. In fact, they like to do “city hikes” where they pick a neighborhood in Seattle and spend the entire day walking around, checking out parks, getting a bite to eat and trying out the local coffee spots and breweries. How cool is that?! They are equal parts adventure/fun and sweet/laidback.

This was so easily seen during their wedding day! As they were planning, they were immediately drawn to the homey feel of the Outlook Inn.  Not to mention its beauty, being right on the waterfront of Orcas Island. To kick things off, they had their intimate ceremony in front of a quaint historic chapel. Afterword, we all moved to the shore for their lovely Outlook Inn dinner reception.

Highlights of Eloping on Orcas Island

I could so clearly see their desire for the day to be simple and classic, stunning water views paired with romantic twinkly lights. For that reason, I loved capturing each moment of their day. The day following, we had an incredible time adventuring just the three of us amidst the island’s nature. These few days with them were relaxed, easy, and full of love. I especially enjoyed the day-after session. Particularly, capturing and commemorating the amazing commitment they had made.

It was a moment of slowing down, breathing in the beauty around them and processing all the big feelings that come with such a huge life step! I’ll never forget ending that session with them, leaving them in a huge field overlooking the island and the water, seeing them take in the gorgeous sunset and the excitement of their new marriage. It’s truly an honor to play this small role in couples’ big moments, helping them craft their perfect day and encouraging them to soak it alllll in.
